Wayfinding

The process by which people orient themselves in physical and digital spaces and navigate from place to place. Effective wayfinding reduces cognitive load and prevents disorientation.

In plain language

People need to know where they are, where they can go, and how to get back. Without clear wayfinding cues, they feel lost and leave.
